Gallica Wine

VINTAGE NOTES

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Admirers of restraint, structure and pleasing acidity, will be delighted by this small crop vintage. A dry spring with significant frost followed by blissfully cool summer temperatures define the growing season. These are often the conditions that reward us with small clusters rich in color and intensity. Tannins are best described as confectionary with volume. This is a winemaker’s vintage and patience will be amply rewarded with unfurling aromatics, succulent fruit and layers of baking spices. Gallica cabernet sauvignon is a blend of three Bordeaux varietals-cabernet sauvignon-cabernet franc and petit verdot. My goal is to make balanced wines that marry power, elegance, and drinking pleasure.

2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
My goal for Cabernet Sauvignon has always been to marry power with elegance. The Gallica debut wine, from the enviable 2007 vintage, is layered with the violet perfume of Cabernet Franc and the stamina of Petit Verdot to create a complex wine. Whiffs of exotic spices, cocoa, black tea, and white pepper accentuate abundant fruit. Observation and tasting drew me to sites in Oakville, the Coombsville area of Napa, as well as my hometown of St. Helena for Gallica fruit. The resulting wine has been gently wrapped in nuanced French oak, adding a sweetness inherent in the finest cooperage. Superb growing conditions rewarded us with a benchmark vintage and remind us why we grow Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work side by side with talented growers and friends crafting wines to share.
