If you were in Napa Valley in October of 2012 you would have thought winemakers were on holiday despite the long hours; the giddiness and lightness of step were that apparent. We were finally treated to a relatively uneventful and predictable growing season and the results were undeniable at the first racking. This charming vintage has the structure of claret combined with succulent Oakville fruit. Cabernet Franc from this rocky site graces the blend with silky tannins but it's the floral notes that are the most appealing. Aromatically explosive, layers of dark cherry, mandarin peel, savory dried herbs wrapped in the warmth of subtle oak, make this bottling worthy of aging yet approachable today. Mother Nature's generosity after two years of remarkably small yields provided 391 cases including a limited supply of coveted magnums and a handful of jeroboams. Enjoy!
Rosemary Cakebread, Winemaker, Spring 2015
"Gallica's beautiful 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has velvety tannins, loads of plum, blackberry and cassis fruit and a floral component. It has a medium to full-bodied personality that would suggest a suave complex wine from a Bordeaux or Margaux appellation. The wine is quite beautiful with purity, richness and an overall charm that makes this an endearing effort in 2013. Moreover, it should drink well for another 20+ years."
